Mission Statement
The mission statement of the New Jersey Pharmacists Association (NJPhA) is to advance the profession of pharmacy and pharmacists as health care providers while providing optimal care to the patients they serve.
History
The New Jersey Pharmacists Association was founded in 1870 as a not-for-profit corporation to represent pharmacists in the State of New Jersey who practice in all areas of pharmacy.
The Association has a proud record of community service, including but not limited to:
• Blood bank operations
• Immunization campaigns
• Public health initiatives (mental health, skin cancer, heart disease, etc)
• Medication awareness programs for seniors
• Relief efforts in Haiti by our Disaster Management Academy
• H1N1 vaccinations
NJPhA is active at all levels of government protecting the interests of pharmacists and the patients that they serve. Its leadership and support has led to the development of the:
• First patient profile system in the country
• Safety closure law
• USP Dispensing Information Program (USPDI)
• Pharmaceutical Assistance for the Aged (PAAD) prescription program
• Bill allowing pharmacists to Immunize
• Health Care Reform Bill and its inclusion of the AMP fix, DME accreditation exemption for pharmacies, PBM transparency, Medicare Part D “Donut Hole” closure, MTM services demonstration projects
• Minimization of cuts to Medicaid reimbursement, dispensing fees, and implementation of copayments to our patients
• Collaborative Practice proposal
The Association is also approved by the Accreditation Council for Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE) as a provider for continuing education. NJPhA provides a comprehensive spectrum of continuing education programs and presents these programs to members and nonmembers throughout the year.
NJPhA was one of the first associations to affiliate with APhA, and was the first to commit to fully integrated dues, a new standard of organizational unity. The Association also takes pride in the four NJPhA presidents who became president of APhA (George Beringer, Jr., Charles Holzhauzer, Charles Holton and Robert Fischelis).
